#TheZone KickStats Widget for Android

We have just released #TheZone KickStats Widget for Android! It is available in the Android market under that name.

#TheZone runs an hourly kick-lottery, where people chatting will be chosen to be randomly kicked. This widget allows for tracking of your current kick count and rank in the top10. Will add a screen shot later. :)

Kick stats was coded by Jay Baldwin (Darc) and Jorje Nava (Tweak) in June of 2010. TheZone logo is the creative work of Paul Sobel (Syber). Thanks to Jim Williams for input on design and functionality. :)

Unreal IRCd 3.2.8.1 Compromise Resolved

I woke up this morning to an email from one of our shell providers that Unreal IRCd 3.2.8.1 had been compromised from the download location on the Unreal IRCd website. The downloaded file was injected with a Trojan horse back-door virus. The incident gave remote hackers the power to run any command from the ssh shell that the user the IRCd was running as has permissions to run. This exploited vulnerability has no affect on connected users.

As a matter of precaution, we have deleted the entire infected source code, and used the cleaned source from Unreal IRCd to compile and install new IRCd instances on all our servers. All our servers are clean and unaffected as of this moment.

tZ iTunes and the tZ Script Family

tZ iTunes

tZTunes echo/controller script for mIRC is ready for initial use and testing. I am not aware of any bugs in the script, but we did not give it the 1.0 version number because there are still modifications we want to make to the script in order to consider it a completed version. As of this post's date, tZ iTunes is on version 0.7.2. I will be making various changes throughout the next few weeks, but only script improvements as far as standards for the tZ family of scripts that Syber and I are working on.

Functionality includes everything that my legacy WAR had for Winamp. For those interested, I will be porting WAR to the tZ script family. It will be rebranded tZ Winamp and will include various features that will compliment the script according to the tZ family architecture.

tZ Script Family

I've gotten a few questions from some people about the tZ scripts Syber and I have been writing recently. We're going to be publishing a family of scripts designed to enhance the mIRC experience. Like Syber's tZ mIRC Styles, these scripts will be branded to help advertise the network, but they will also follow a standard of quality hightened from scripts of our past.

In addition to higher quality standards, we seek to implement a few tZ Utilities that will help tZ scripts not interfere with other scripts, but also allow our users the ability to customize their experience and the interaction mIRC plays with other scripts. One of these additions is the new tZ FunctionKeys -- a script designed to act as a control panel for configuring the use of the function keys. tZ scripts will not directly contain aliases for the function keys any longer. (Those of you that used WAR for winamp remember tapping F10 simply sent the format you had selected to the current window, private message, or IRC channel.) Now, tZ Function Keys will handle all function key mapping. When you install a script such as tZ iTunes or the future tZ Winamp, the scripts will check the "default" key mappings in tZ Function Keys for currently mapped fields. If there is no mapping on that key, they will install themselves -- which you can configure through an easy to use dialog at any time. If there is already a key mapping there, the script will not overwrite it, but you can choose to do this manually later. tZ Function Keys displays every function key, and all available commands for that key.

Expect a completed version of tZ Function Keys in the coming weeks. A beta version is available in tZ iTunes.

We're also working on a module and web portal to allow the scripts to automatically update themselves by downloading newer versions and porting any configurations to whatever new format that may exist automatically. Naturally, the scripts will consult the user before performing any action like this.
